Le Monolithe

MVRD
The Monolithe is a mixed-use urban block located at the confluence of the Saône and Rhône rivers in Lyon. The project consists of five sections designed by different European architects, the south end holds the place of MVRDV building. Within the 5 sections there is a large interior court yard with a raised public space over looking the city. This analysis of this project is directed mainly at the primary void that is the court yard and secondary voids that protrude from it.

The diagrams portray a series of lines that accent the interior threshold. They become darker and more repetitive where the space becomes tighter and enclosed hence, prioritizing the importance of the threshold. On the contrary they become lighter at the secondary voids or where one would just begin the gradient of a space.
