The Papal Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatica is an Italian Renaissance church in Vatican City. Designed principally by Donato Bramante, Michelangelo, Carlo Maderno and Gian Lorenzo Bernini, St. Peter's embodies the work of Renaissance architecture and one of the largest churches in the world.

The following Basilica is widely known for numerous numerous features; the various famous architects, architectural style, dome, etc. However this study focuses on a feature that can easily be unseen: the thresholds created between the walls and furniture. This unique feature defers from other thresholds that are occupied or filter light, never the less it is no less captivating. The attention to detail portrays the importance of the church but more importantly for the following studies captures the magnitude that a simple threshold can endure in a space.
